THE KING´S STAGE CLIMBS THE GROßGLOCKNER

“Today the mountain of mountains in the history of the Tour: The Grossglockner. With it`s 3,798 meters the highest mountain in Austria. The KOM classification at the Hochtor, where the “Glöcknerkönig” is also awarded, is the top of the Tour of Austria at 2,504 meters and has been a real highlight for many years. Dramas were written here and many Tours decided. A small preliminary decision in the overall classification will probably be made today as well. The finish in St.Johann Alpendorf, a place that has already been a stage partner of the Tour of Austria several times, will be exciting”.

Sillian

The market town in Hochpustertal. The place with the most hours of sunshine in Austria. The Tour was already a guest in 1993 and 1995.

TVB Osttirol chairman Franz Theurl: “The Tour of Austria has a long tradition in East Tyrol. In the 1950s there were already legendary stage arrivals followed by the start of a ride over the Großglockner, so there have been many unforgettable and friendly encounters with the organizers and cyclists over the decades. We are pleased that after a break of several years, this international cycling event, which is now listed as the “Tour of Austria” in the UCI calendar, is coming to a new edition. In addition to Lienz, Sillian was also a stage and starting point again and again. So we are happy that this year the start of the 3rd stage will take place in the market town of Sillian. With the king’s stage over the Großglockner, we are experiencing an exciting day in international cycling events”.

St.Johann Alpendorf

A feel-good oasis in Salzburg. Access to the extensive Snowspace Salzburg ski area. And in summer a hiking area with a great offer of fine hotels.

“With a network of bike and trail paths spanning more than 500 kilometers, the Snow Space Salzburg holiday region is one of the most popular bike hotspots in the Alps. Signs such as the tour stop of the Großglockner royal stage of the Tour of Austria in St. Johann/Alpendorf or the ultimate bike challenge Stoneman Taurista underpin the varied and varied offer for families, mountain and e-bikers as well as racing cyclists in the heart of the Salzburger Land”, praises Wolfgang Hettegger, CEO of Snow Space Salzburg, the cycling advantages of his region.
