Stage 4

July 6th 2024

The ultimate Glockner Stage. Steep, difficult, and very beautiful.

“Once again this year, the Glockner stage will bring a preliminary decision in the battle for the overall victory. After starting from St. Johann Alpendorf, one needs good legs to get to the toll booth in Ferleiten. Then it’s a steep climb of 1,300 meters. First, the mountain classification of the highest category at the Fuschertörl, 2,428 meters, where this year’s Glockner King will be crowned, and then the Hochtor, at 2,504 meters, the roof of the tour. After a rapid descent, the next obstacle awaits: the Iselsberg. Then the sprint classification in Lienz, before the finale begins in Huben, with the 12-kilometer ascent up to the mountaineering village of Kals at the foot of the Großglockner. The 500-meter uphill sprint before the finish demands everything from the boys. It will be a battle between the best!”

St.Johann Alpendorf

A feel-good oasis in Salzburg. Access to the extensive Snowspace Salzburg ski area. And in summer a hiking area with a great offer of fine hotels.

“With a network of bike and trail paths spanning more than 500 kilometers, the Snow Space Salzburg holiday region is one of the most popular bike hotspots in the Alps. Signs such as the tour stop of the Großglockner royal stage of the Tour of Austria in St. Johann/Alpendorf or the ultimate bike challenge Stoneman Taurista underpin the varied and varied offer for families, mountain and e-bikers as well as racing cyclists in the heart of the Salzburger Land”, praises Wolfgang Hettegger, CEO of Snow Space Salzburg, the cycling advantages of his region.

Kals

Uniquely nestled in the breathtaking mountain panorama of the three-thousanders, at the foot of the Großglockner and amidst the Hohe Tauern National Park, lies the sun-drenched village of Kals am Großglockner at 1,325 meters.

Franz Theurl, Chairman of the TVB Osttirol: “The Österreich-Radrundfahrt/Tour of Austria has a great tradition in East Tyrol. Going all the way back to the 1950s, there were legendary stage finishes with subsequent starts for the ride over the Großglockner, and over the decades, there have been many unforgettable encounters with the organizers and cyclists. We are delighted that the ‘Tour of Austria’ is coming to East Tyrol again this year, and that the finish of the 4th stage will be in the mountain village of Kals am Großglockner. With the Queen stage over the Großglockner, we will experience an exciting day in international cycling, and I wish the Tour of Austria a successful and accident-free course.”
