Stage 2

Outstanding hospitality awaits in St. Johann/Alpendorf

After the Tour Opening in Steyr, the teams will have another chance to position their sprinters. After today, the fast-men will likely only be active spectators during the final three stages. Our WSA KTM GRAZ team will bring both riders with a turn of speed and climbers to the Tour of Austria. In addition, we hope to showcase our jersey colours to a global audience on the second stage. In any case, we are already looking forward to the outstanding hospitality in St. Johann/Alpendorf.

Bischofshofen

Stage in Bischofshofen for the first time

We are very pleased that the 2nd stage will start here in Bischofshofen, which is often referred to as the cradle of the Pongau region. Since many many years our town has been an important settlement-, mining-  and trading center as well as a cultural hot spot in the province of Salzburg. About five thousand years ago, people settled at the “Red Rock” near Götschenberg, marking the beginnings of copper extraction in Bischofshofen. In addition to our defining ecclesiastical history and mining heritage, railway construction is another significant chapter in our town’s history. As a railway junction of the Gisela and  Crown Prince Rudolf Railway, Bischofshofen plays a central role in Austria’s rail network. In terms of sports, Bischofshofen is internationally known for hosting the final event of the Four Hills Tournament in ski jumping. However, cycling also has a long-standing tradition here. In the past, we have already hosted city criteriums and mountain time trials.

Outdoorsman’s wonderland in the ALPS

Salzburg is a year-round paradise for lover of the outdoors. A stone’s throw away from the extensive ski area Snow Space Salzburg during the winter months. During summer, a hiking area with the best hotels is perfect for those looking for an active getaway. With over 500 kilometers of cycling and trail networks, the holiday region Snow Space Salzburg is one of the most popular cycling hotspots in the Alps. Flagship locations such as the regular Tour of Austria animator, the Großglockner in St. Johann/Alpendorf, or the ultimate cycling challenge of the Stoneman Taurista are just two of the diverse offerings for families, mountain and e-bikers, as well as road cyclists in the heart of the Salzburg region.
