Riders must hold on for dear life at the Kühtai Rodeo

So, today things are going to get really intense: No less than 3,500 meters of elevation gain are spread over just 117 kilometers. It may be short but it’s certainly not lacking in intensity! Kühtai, at 2,000 meters, is the highest point of this year’s race, and the riders will climb it twice. In the local road cycling community, this “spider’s web” challenge from multiple different directions up to the popular winter sports resort is known as the Kühtai Rodeo. So grab your cowboy hat and hold on tight, because today will definitely be a major deciding factor in the overall standings. The fact that Kühtai is back on the program along with Innsbruck is due to the city of Innsbruck, the Tourist Board, and the state of Tyrol and their brilliant collaboration last year – for that we are truly grateful. As you know, we replaced the Kühtai stage in 2024, which would have been the finale of the race, with a condolence ride after Andre Drege’s tragic accident.

Innsbruck

BREATHTAKING MOUNTAINS FOR ALPINE OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

The Innsbruck region is ready for another spectacular stage on Tyrolean soil. The route is short, but with 3,500 meters of elevation gain, it’s a real climb, making it the crowning stage of the Tour of Austria 2025! And it embodies precisely what makes our region so unique – with its start in the heart of Innsbruck and its finish at 2,000 meters in Kühtai, it connects the city’s urban environment with the imposing mountain world. The picturesque Sellrain Valley invites year-round outdoor activities in the wild solitude of the Stubai Alps, and Kühtai, Innsbruck’s highest ski resort, offers top-level sporting challenges even in summer. While the pros train at the high-altitude performance center, amateur cyclists can push themselves to their limits at the Kühtai Rodeo.

Cycling is rooted in our region

As Tyrol’s Sports Councillor I am particularly pleased that the 74th Tour of Austria – the country’s most prestigious cycling event – is stopping off in Tyrol again this year. The 4th stage from Innsbruck to Kühtai is not only an athletic challenge, but also showcases some of the most breathtaking scenery our region has to offer. Major events like this play a key role in establishing Tyrol as a leading cycling destination in the alpine region. They captivate thousands of spectators along the route and demonstrate just how deeply cycling is rooted in our region. I would like to thank the entire organising team and am looking forward to thrilling racing moments set against Tyrol’s stunning mountain backdrop.
