Stage 5

The “grand finale” in Feldkirch. Suspense right up until the finish line

The overall winner of the 74th Tour of Austria will most likely be determined in Vorarlberg. For the first time, a true mountain stage will be held in the “Ländle” region, covering 144.1 kilometers and 3,388 meters of elevation gain. The start and finish will be in the historic old town of Feldkirch, which also saw the finish in 2018. As part of the “Feldkirch 100” anniversary, the tour convoy will start in Marktgasse for an opening lap before climbing towards Laterns. At the end of the Laterns Valley, the spectacular climb to the Furkajoch, reaching 1,759 meters, will test the riders for the first time in a UCI race. After the rapid descent through the tourist town of Damüls, the Faschinajoch, at 1,486 meters high, will be the next obstacle. The additional climb to the Dünserberg will further challenge the peloton in the picturesque Walsertal region. The finale is set to be a thrilling spectacle. After another pass through Feldkirch, the decisive classic-esque final lap in the Walgau will follow, before the stage winners and overall winners are crowned at the foot of the Schattenburg.

Cycling races have a long history in Feldkirch

As an avid amateur road cyclist and mayor of Feldkirch, it is to my great pleasure that the Tour of Austria’s final stage not only weaves its way through the beautiful Vorarlberg countryside, but also through Vorarlberg’s most beautiful town. Cycling races have a long history in Feldkirch. 100 years ago, to mark the merger of Großfeldkirch, there was a cycling race through the various districts of the town. The local cycling clubs participated in the race, with a total of around 300 participants on the start line. I am all the more pleased that we can mark this anniversary year with the passage of the Tour of Austria. The historic old town lends this brilliant event a unique flair and I’m confident it will be remembered by many for a long time, not only the people of Feldkirch.

Ing. Manfred Rädler, Mayor City of Feldkirch

Cycling is a core sport in our region

As Minister of Sport I am delighted that the finale of this year’s Tour of Austria will be held in Vorarlberg. Since 1949,this race has stood for emotion, excitement and outstanding sporting achievements and has become a fixture in the Austrian sports calendar. With three mountain classifications and almost 3,400 meters of elevation gain this final stage is a true test for the participants and demands the highest concentration and endurance. Cycling is deeply rooted in our country – as a core sport with committed associations, strong clubs, motivated young talents and a broad appeal. It is precisely events like this that demonstrate how diverse and vibrant our sporting culture is. I would like to thank the organizers and everyone who makes this major event possible, and I wish the participants every success and numerous enthusiastic spectators along the route.

Martina Rüscher, State Councillor of Sports
