Stage 5

The final count down in Austria’s highest winter sports resort

“Everything is set for the grand finale. The starting flag descends in the fortress city of Kufstein. After a small loop and another pass through the start the peloton rolls through parts of the 2018 World Championship route through the Inntal valley westbound. Sprint classifications in Kufstein and in the silver city of Schwaz, mountain classifications at the foot of the Glungezer and the Olympic Patscherkofel, next to the bobsleigh track. At breakneck speed with the Bergisel ski jump in sight, it descends into the Tyrolean capital Innsbruck. Then the only way is up with a long, high climb to the finish line. At over 20 km and 1,400 meters in attitude it is a highlight for climbing enthusiasts. Kühtai was last on the program in 2013. Riccardo Zoidl later laid the foundation for his tour victory there. Perhaps another Austrian will land on the podium this year.”

The grand finale with a spectacular finish in Austria’s highest winter sports resort at 2,020 meters above sea level.

“We eagerly look forward to the final stage of this year’s Tour of Austria, where our beautiful region of Innsbruck will serve as the backdrop. The route connects the urban environment of the city with the high-alpine holiday destination of Kühtai. The region of Innsbruck is once again the stage for sporting excellence, exciting competitions, and top-level road cycling. At the same time, the Tour of Austria helps us to position Kühtai and the Sellraintal as attractive summer holiday destinations. With impressive mountain peaks and perfect conditions for high-alpine outdoor experiences,” Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism, looks forward to the stage and wishes everyone a good ride.”
